Stewart W. Smith

STEWART WALTER SMITH dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend passed away at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital on December 7, 2022. Stewart was born to Glenn and Lilley Smith April 24,1933 in Cicero New York at home. Stewart is predeceased by five siblings, Frank, Harold,Ralph, Glenny and sister Mabel. He is survived by a sister Gertrude Merriam.

Stewart is also survived by his wife Phyllis Ann Wilder Smith and their four children,Thomas Smith and wife Emily, David Smith and his wife Shelly, James Smith and Irene, and Judy Smith Battaglia and Mike Battaglia; He has ten Grandchildren, Jennifer Smith McGillicuddy and Sean, David A. Smith and Kirsten, Jimmy Smith and Amanda, Brian Smith and Trisha, Holly Smith Roberts and Nathan, Jeremy Smith and Stacy, Shannon Smith,Matthew Smith and Bree, Christopher Battaglia, Lauren Kademian and Ryan and Danielle Battaglia; and many great grandchildren. Stewart was blessed in his life by so many children whom he loved and they loved him.

Stewart, “Papa “ was a natural. A wonderful provider. A helping hand and shoulder for support or to cry on. We loved his humor and that smile.

Stewart married Phyllis Ann Wilder June 27; 1953 and they  lived in Central Square and Hastings New York their whole lives.He worked as a carpenter for TM Dewer and Crucible Steel for 40 years. He was a friend to all and a fixer of all things. Stewart enjoyed many hobbies. He was an amazing Gardner,maker of maple syrup, fisherman and camper. He was an amazing builder and built three homes by himself for his family. And, always willing to help all the children and grandchildren.

Stewart passed away peacefully in the presence of family. Our family would like to extend a special thank you to CrouseIrving staff for their wonderful care.
