Edward Coombs Obituary

Edward N. Coombs, 56, of Central Square, NY passed away peacefully at his home on October 13, 2020  after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife, their two sons, and extended family.

Ed was born in Oneida, NY on June 18, 1964 and raised in Utica, NY.

Ed was a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Utica, NY. After serving in the Marine Corps and Army Reserves, Ed received his associates and bachelor degrees in Accounting from SUNY Canton and SUNY Oswego. He was an active member of Delta Kappa Sigma fraternity, holding several leadership positions and maintaining strong ties with the organization. He was an active alumni and volunteer of SUNY Canton and the Canton College Foundation Board of Directors. While serving as vice chair, Ed received the 2020 Distinguished Alumni award in his twelfth year of service to the Canton College Foundation Board of Directors.

Ed practiced public accounting for 30 years as a New York State CPA. He served as the Chief Financial Officer of various companies and most recently managing member of Edward N. Coombs, LLC.

Ed did not let his cancer diagnosis slow him down. In fact, he attended many concerts across the U.S. from seeing DMB at The Gorge, Pearl Jam in NYC, and the Avett Brothers at Red Rocks to spend as much time as he could soaking up the music and showing off what little dance moves he had. He spent the majority of his summer weekends at Plum Tree Palace with his closest friends and family to get things in order for fall hunting season. When he wanted to relax and get away from the cold, he would spend time at his family’s second home in Jupiter, FL soaking up the rays with the likes of his favorite tunes bumping from his portable speaker watching the babes..eh hem, waves.. just steps from the ocean.  If there wasn’t a show to go to or sand to sink his toes into, watching the Boston Bruins from the stands or his reclining chair is where you would find him.

Ed would always say he was not a role model, and it was the biggest lie he ever told. He was a loving husband, an amazing father, a great friend to many, and he was an uncle to you whether you wanted it or not.

Ed is survived by his wife, Christine (Howard); sons, Edward J. and Dominic; mother, Rosemary (Muscarella) Greiner; father, Edward and his wife, Marilyn Coombs; brother, Scott Coombs; and step-brother, Frank Samarco.

Ed is predeceased by brother Jimmy Samarco; step-father George Greiner; and his grandparents, Joseph and Margaret Muscarella.

There will be a celebration of life in Spring or Summer 2021.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ballsfest. He got the last laugh.
