Charles J Cox Jr. died at home Tuesday, August 18, 2020. Most people knew him as “Charlie” and he had many passions in his life. First of which was his family that he loved dearly. He and his wife Mary Ann (Dunham) went to school at Central Square High School, both graduates of the Class of ’65, where he was a member of the rifle team. Growing up with his best friend Harry Penoyer, on the north shore of Oneida Lake, was a very fond memory. He went to MVCC to get his Electrical Tech degree, then enlisted in the Navy Seabees where he served his Country as the US was nearing the end of the Vietnam war.
Charlie wore many hats throughout his life. He was a member of the Central Square Fire Department for many years before becoming a lifetime member. He and his wife were part of the Silver Dollar Dancers, a country dance demonstration team. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, but most of all travel. He and his wife Mary Ann traveled everywhere… They were four-star Mariners with Holland America and always were looking forward to that next trip!
Charlie is predeceased by his father Charles J Cox; half-sister Peggy Cox; and brother in law Dion Ford. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Mary Ann Cox; daughters, Michelle (Rick) Mark and Barbara (John) Metzger; mother Bertha (Cox) Armstrong, brother Tab (Debbie) Cox; sister Sandie (Cox) Ford; half-sister Mary Lou (Cox) Fyfe; six grandchildren Stephanie Mark, Rachel Ackley, Jackelyn Ackley, Aeron Metzger, Cassandra Metzger, and Sarah Metzger; and two great granddaughters Adreanna Eldell and Kora Kelsey.
Calling Hours will be held on Saturday, 9:00 am to 11:00 am, with a Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 at Watson Funeral Home, Central Square. A Graveside Service, with Military Honors, will be held immediately following the service at Hillside Cemetery in Central Square.
