John Edward Walch, 75, a resident of Bernhards Bay, N.Y. passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born November 3, 1942 in Oswego, NY, a son of Frederick and Francis (Derousie) Walch. He married Jill Diane Hunt in Bloomville, New York on December 29, 1973.
John will live on in our hearts as a man who passionately embraced and enjoyed life. He blessed his family by applying his many talents and interests to build the family home as well as build, restore or repurpose furniture pieces. He also collected and restored antique radios and juke boxes, and enjoyed restoring and showing antique cars and trucks.
His niece, Darlene, wrote “Rest In Peace Uncle John. You will always be remembered as being a free spirited, talented, jokester, master of all trades Uncle, who never EVER failed to make us laugh....or get into trouble from time to time. You will be missed by all whom you’ve ever met.”
John is survived by his wife Jill; daughter, Jilleen (Steven) Phillips; grandson, Steven (Lee) Leroy Phillips; as well as his son, Jared (Katherine) Walch and grandson John Eichhorn Walch. He is also survived by six brothers and sisters and their families.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John’s The Evangelist Church in Camden at 10 AM on February 14 with calling hours at 9:30 at the church, Father Paul Mathis officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s cemetery in Cleveland, NY in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Shore Ambulance, 136 Bridge Street, Cleveland, NY 13042.
