Walter L. Wood, 79, of Central Square, passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at Crouse Hospital.
Visitation will be held at Watson Funeral Home in Central Square on Friday, March 1, 2024 from 10:00AM to 12:00PM, closing with a service at 12:00PM. Immediately following, friends and family are invited to celebrate Walt’s life at the Central Square American Legion.
Walt was born on November 2, 1944 in Central Square, to the late Harry and Genevieve Wood. He joined the United States Army in 1965, serving his country and working as an Executive Chef for the Officers Club until his honorable discharge in 1971. Walt married Dawn Lewis on April 7, 1978, and dedicated 49 and a half years working for General Electric and Lockheed Martin.
Walt’s love for nature and the outdoors was a direct reflection of his kind, quiet personality. He always kept a garden, and made sure the bird feeders stayed full. Camping became a favorite of his, or sitting by the lake watching boats go by at Kring Point State Park. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing when he could find the time, and spending time with his schnauzer; Cookie.
Besides his parents, Walt is predeceased by his siblings; Leonard Wood and Roger Wood, as well as a niece and a nephew.
Surviving Walter is his wife of over 45 years; Dawn, his children; Kitty (Albert) Giamartino, Cassie Wood, and Geniece (Mike) Monette, his siblings; Larry (Kathy) Wood and Marrie (Frederick) Nowack, sister in law; Donna Wood, multiple grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
