Joyce (Nickel) Howard

Joyce E. Howard, 85, of Central Square, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2017 surrounded by loved ones. Joyce was born August 26, 1932 in Fremont, Ohio. She was the fourth of eight children. Joyce was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, James Howard, parents, Oliver and Marian Nickel, and her sisters, Myrtle Warner and Sue Wood. Joyce graduated from Fremont High School in 1950; she then went on to study nursing at Toledo School of Nursing and graduated in 1953. Joyce enjoyed spending time at camp, wintering in Florida and playing shuffleboard with great friends.

Joyce will be lovingly remembered by daughters, Cheryl (Ron) Blanchard & Chris (Ed) Coombs, grandchildren, Andrea (Billy) Hogan, John (Melissa) Boughton II, EJ and Dominic Coombs, great granddaughter, Evalet Hogan, and siblings, Mary Miarer, Jeanne Auxter, Janet (Bill) Cudnik, Dave and Carol Wood, Loren Nickel, Linda (Jim) Szajna.

In honor of Joyce’s request, there will be no calling hours or services. The family will be hosting a celebration of Joyce’s life starting at 2 pm on Saturday, October 14 at the Central Square American Legion, Rt 11, Central Square.
