John was a dear lifelong friend. It’s difficult to believe, and disheartening, that I will never hear his voice again. We had really good conversations covering many subjects. I always appreciated his substantive and positive point of view. I am already missing him. I will especially miss his integrity and his spiritual determination. I will miss his smile as soon as he recognized me when I would meet with him. I can only imagine how this loss has affected his family. My continuing prayers are with them and him. The world will be a lesser place without him.

My condolences to John's family--so very sorry for your loss. John and I each rented an upstairs bedroom in a house on Cayuga Street in Auburn while we were students at ACC. I always found John to be friendly, a good listener, philosophical, a lover of his guitar and Simon and Garfunkel albums. I am certain he will be missed by all who ever knew him.

I am Pat Webb Hogan's daughter (John's second cousin). I just found out about John and am sorry that I missed the services. I am so sorry for your loss. I got to spend some time with John before John Sr. passed. He was quite an amazing person. Michael told me that he saw John earlier this year and looked forward to his visits - he will be missed. Our thoughts are with you all.

Our deepest condolences go out to the Mahardy family. We were honored to call John Jr. our friend and neighbor for many years while on Martin Rd. He was a kind soul and kindred spirit to our grandfather, the late Thomas Hogan. We will miss our chats and remember John fondly.

John was a special friend to me from the first day I met him in 1962. I consider myself fortunate to have known John and his loved ones and I will miss him. We had plans to collaborate on maple syrup production this season but fate has stepped in and I will think of him often during the boiling. Please accept our condolences. I loved John Mahardy and will never forget him.

I remember John as a intelligent, articulate and a very gentle and caring soul. I never had a lot of contact with John, but when we had the opportunity to talk, he always remembered small details of my life. That always amazed me, and made me feel embraced. To the entire Mahardy family; I offer my deepest condolences for the loss of a very special person. May the sweet memories of his past, overshadow the pain of his loss.

What a good friend John was. Even though we hadn't connected in years, he was frequently in my thoughts. He will be missed.

Oh Meg, John was talking to me about you and Alan the last time we were together. He sang a song for me that he had written for Alan many years ago. He was saying he wanted to get in touch with you. 💕
